Book Meme Day 4

Day 4 - Book you hate
I'm not sure I actually hate any books, I just don't bother with them ever again.  I mentioned an awful book I read in comments to someone-else post, which was called 'The Tudor Wife' by Emily Purdy.  Badly written, completely inaccurate, it's probably one of the few times I've literally thrown the book across the room. (I think that was at the point she wrote the sex scene with Anne of Cleves, Catherine Howard and a pot of honey...)

I found the Mayor of Casterbridge depressing (studied it for A level's which often destroys any residual liking you might once have had).

Day 3 - Your favourite book

Oh Goodness, this depends on the mood I'm in, I have several!

Not sure I can pick one.  All the Anne of Green Gables books, Pride and Prejudice are amongst the group of 'faves'.  Possibly 'Here be Dragons' by Sharon Penman is in that group too.    If I had to pick one, probably P&P.  Or  Anne of Green Gables (I can't pick between the two!)

Jane Eyre was my favourite when I was younger and more melodramatic.  (I read it before I read P&P).  It's still up in my top grouping, but not quite my alltime favourite.

Although appropriately enough, I was looking at Charlotte Bronte's gloves today.  Tiny, Tiny hand.  (And the wind and the rain are wuthering away, much as I would have thought it did when the Bronte's were writing.

(I'm about 5/10 mins drive from Haworth, we look out over the same fields...)

Meme gakked from lemonbella

Comment to this post, and I will list seven things I want you to talk about. They might make sense or they might be totally random. Then post that list, with your commentary, to your journal. Other people can get lists from you, and the meme merrily perpetuates itself.
Questions from lemonbella.  SOme of these were easy, some jolly difficult.

1) Most overrated thing
In my life?  Or in general?  So-called 'celebrities' famous for being famous.  Or dating someone famous, or being the kid of someone famous.  I like to read about people that have actually done something.  (And even if that something is acting/singing etc, it's still more earned than most of the people you read about in Heat).  Which I no longer bother reading.

2) Most underrated thing
How hard people work in Museums, and how decidedly unglamorous most of the work is (fun most of the time though).  Or Nurses - My parent's both work so hard, and yet it seems the world at large takes Nurses for granted.  Unless it's to snipe at the profession.

3) If you got a job offer in a non UK country would you take it?
If it was in Museums, highly likely. Although I enjoy my job here at the moment!  And only if I could also afford regular trips home to see everyone.

4) Which website do you visit the most? (no lying to make you sound more sophisticated than you actually are)
TelevisionWithoutPIty/Facebook/Twitter in about equal amount.  Not sophisticated at all.  Guardian/BBC behind that probably

5) Which storyline in which TV show would you re-write? How and why?
At the moment? The Stupid 'Finchel' stuff in Glee (I know,it's trashy, but I enjoy it).  Rachel needs to be the sparky, independent girl she was in the first series.  And with Puck or Jesse, who seem to accept her as she is and not hold her back.  Also, I'd removed the icky Shelby/Puck bit too...

6) If you had to have the life of one TV/film character, who would it be?
Ooooh, Can I be Elizabeth Bennet (probably in the 1995 adaptation  - that counts doesn't it?  She ends up with Mr Darcy, and a fabulous house.

I'd want to be a character with some form of happy ending, that's for sure.

7) There’s a film of your life; what would the title and tagline be?
I don't know......  Some kind of stupid pun.  I'll have to think on that one.

Get your own New Year's Resolutions:
I just looked and realised that the last time I posted was April...

Quite a bits happened since then.

Looks like I have an further extension at work, although I've not yet got the bit of paper through.

The exhibition. mentioned on the previous post? Turned into a bit of Mare, courtesy of my colleague in Social History who told us it was all under control (me and the new Assistant exhibitions officer), went on maternity leave early, and turned out to have messed several aspects of it up, resulting in a stressful, very long installation week for me and aforementioned exhibitions person and a formal complaint from the group  (not really directed at at us, but annoying all the same).  Still it bonded me and the exhibitions officer together well, which is good, cos we're working on few installs for the site.

Still looking after both the original site I had responsiblity for, and another one, and its not doing too badly balancing the two on the whole.  My bosses still think I'm doing okay  (both have said as much this week in various meetings/discussions), so I feel appreciated!

I've been gearing up for my Best Friend's (and former Boss)'s wedding, wherein I will be a Bridesmaid.  Took two attempts to find a nice dress, but it has been bought.  It's in a fortnight (eek!), and I'm finally enjoying the first quiet weekend at home by myself that I've had in about a month.

September - one weekend, BestfriendBosslady came up to go shopping in Leeds for dress.  WE were unsuccessful, so the next weekend, came down to Nottingham for Dress shopping, This was sucessful, but I was coming down with rotten cold that turned bad enough to have 3 days of work the following week.

Then it was running about doing prep for the next exhibition onsite, which coincides with the local Literary Festival, at the beginnin of October?  1st weekend was the hen-do, so I travelled down for that.  I did I have a weekend up home, the following weekend was down to Nottingham again for John Barrowman concert.  The next weekend, I travelled back down to Bosslady's house  (3 hours it took in rushhour) to travel a further 2 and half down to Suffolk so I could see her wedding dress on the last fitting.  It was gorgeous, and am glad I did so.

This was followed by the Halloween event on Friday at work (1500 people!), which Mum and Dad came up to help with, so I had them for the weekend....

After the wedding in a fortnight?  I have two exhibition change overs, a exhibition launch (which is apparently manic every year...), a BBC project we're working on, a big Christmas event, and Dad's 60th Birthday  (we're off to Morpeth castle for that, it will be v.v. cool).

I'm going to be shattered by Christmas though...

But I can't complain - its lots of good stuff happening, and I'm still gainfully employed at the moment, which considering it was intially just the one year, am quite happy with.

Today, all I have planned is doing the dishes, putting on a load of washing, and watching Strictly this evening....

Go support my brother!

He's aiming to get over a grand without the giftaid (so it'll be more when that's claimed back). Please go support him if you can...

He's getting his head shave before Notts County's last game tomorrow! Lets see if we can beat the grand target!

Because all the cool kids are doing it

I need your puns...

I'm working on a costume exhibition, which is fun, if challenging. I could do with some inspiration on titles, though - it's  a year long one in total - 4 changeds for each season.

I need a) an overall title for the set, b) subtitles for each of the four. And my punning/wordplay skills were falling me this afternoon

Any and all suggestions are gratefully received...

In need of cheering up

I skidded in my car today, and it's a bit crumpled at the front (I knocked a concrete bollard over...).

I ache, and my car's had to go the garage - one of my colleaues ran me home. I did it about 30 secs from work - just round the corner, and the bollard in question - in front of our steps up.... I ache, bit shaken up, but otherwise ok.. Long bath in order, once I've had something to eat!

But, my poor car - hoping it won't be too expensive, and looked worse than it is... Taking the day off tomorrow to sort bits out/hibernate...
